Experimenting with Color

Today the children had a chance to get messy and learn about the relationships between colors. We began our class by guessing what would happen when we mixed one primary color (red, blue or yellow) with another.

After that we put our theories to the test. We went outside and worked in the breezeway. Each child was given a piece of paper and a roller. Each child had a chance to experiment with mixing different colors. We began by mixing the primary colors together to make secondary colors. Following that the kids were given fresh paper, cleaned rollers and free reign to choose what colors they wanted to mix. It was very exciting to see what happened!

After a big clean up, we returned inside to our seats where everyone had a chance to do a quick color mixing worksheet that will be added to their sketchbooks as a reminder of what we learned today.

A fun day, and messy! We will be using these beautiful painted sheets next week to make paper quilts!
